The code was actually getting confused on new products or items where the entry was null in the db.  If you had a value in it and then erased the value it worked fine (since the new value in the db was &lt;em&gt;&#039;&#039;&lt;/em&gt; instead of &lt;em&gt;null&lt;/em&gt;.  Just thought I&#039;d clarify :) .</description>
